Jacob’s Ladder Brimstone takes one of Southern Draw’s boldest blends and deliberately pushes it further. Introduced in July 2019, Brimstone was developed as a more aggressive interpretation of the original Jacob’s Ladder, using a dark U.S. Broadleaf wrapper and binder over a triple-ligero filler blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos. Production is handled in Nicaragua at the AJ Fernandez factory, with Southern Draw co-founder Robert Holt credited as blender.
The triple-ligero construction is the defining feature here. Southern Draw gave those three ligero components the names “Hail,” “Fire,” and “Brimstone,” reinforcing both the cigar’s strength and its biblical-inspired identity. Rather than simply increasing ring gauge or tweaking the original blend, Southern Draw created Brimstone to stand apart as a fuller, heavier expression of the Jacob’s Ladder family.
The original Brimstone arrived as a distinctive 6 x 56 Perfecto, pairing its tapered shape with the dense Broadleaf and ligero-heavy blend. Southern Draw later expanded Brimstone into additional formats, but the Perfecto remains the cigar most closely associated with the original 2019 release. It is unapologetically built for smokers who appreciate substantial tobacco, strength and body rather than a restrained profile.
