After a trip to the San Andres region of Mexico to source tobacco, Foundation Cigars founder and master blender Nick Melillo was inspired to create a cigar that honors the area’s rich tobacco heritage and the ancient Olmec civilization. This inspiration led to the creation of the Foundation Olmec Claro cigar line. The Olmecs, who lived in the San Andres region from around 1600 to 400 BCE, were known for cultivating tobacco, smoking cigars, and constructing pyramids with precise mathematical methods. The Olmec Claro cigar features a warm tan Mexican San Andres wrapper, encasing a Nicaraguan binder and filler. The filler leaves undergo a three-year bale-aging process before rolling, which allows them to develop a distinctive flavor profile.
