The Byron story begins in 1848, when cousins José and Eusebio Alfonso opened a small cigar factory in Santiago de Las Vegas, just outside Havana, Cuba. They named their brand Byron in tribute to the legendary English poet Lord Byron, celebrated not only for his romantic works, but also for his passion for fine cigars.
Widely regarded as one of the earliest brands to feature a lithographed cigar band bearing its name, Byron helped set a standard for presentation that still defines premium cigars today.
After thriving for decades, the brand eventually disappeared during the hardships of the Great Depression in the 1930s but its story didn’t end there.
Over 150 years after its founding, the legacy was reignited when Nelson Alfonso, a direct descendant of the original founders, reclaimed the Byron name in 1998 bringing a historic marque back to life for a new generation of cigar enthusiasts.
